Throwing away your garbage is something we always do. Where is your garbage going?
It is going to a place where they are processing the garbage; Garbage dumps. Jardim Gramacho, located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro is world’s largest garbage dump. In these places work Catadores. Catadores are the people who recycle the garbage. They pick out the usable stuff and put it in their big bags. Vik Muniz made portraits by using the garbage the catadores are daily processing. In the documentary Waste land we follow Vik Muniz making these portraits and getting in touch with the Catadores.
For everyone who didn’t care about their garbage before will forever think otherwise. Waste land will always be remembered.
